I got a Giant #17 Beef $10.95+tax=$11.91. I think it was called Mike's Famous Philly Cheese Steak. I could be wrong. Anyways, regardless of what it's called, the meat was chewy. Maybe that isn't the right word, but all-in-all it made the experience bad.
I guess the conclusion was that you should only get cold cut subs at Jersey Mike's. Though I'm not sure if I would ever try one, given the bad experience.

Red Robin Gourmet Burgers & Brews
Prior to 20101226:
I've been to Red Robin several times before. Most of those have been at the Santa Ana location, a few at the Fashion Island location, and once at a location in Maryland.
[20150908 Edit]
20101226:
I love Red Robin. Bottomless Root Beer floats... too many refills isn't the best of ideas.
[20110110] (Santa Ana, CA)
20110705:
Today I got one of my favorite burgers: the Whiskey River BBQ Burger. At first I was looking at the chicken menu and was about to order the Whiskey River BBQ Chicken Sandwich, but then I did a double-take and asked myself, "Chicken!?!" I proceeded to the next page and sighed in relief as I saw the Whiskey River BBQ Burger. I like many other burgers here at Red Robin, but sometimes I just can't resist the allure of BBQ. I also substituted sweet potato fries for the steak fries.
As of 20110712, I recalled liking the sweet potato fries at Fuji's Famous Burger better.
Red Robin's Website Description:
Whiskey River BBQ Burger Don’t be afraid to get a little saucy. Basted with our signature Whiskey River® BBQ Sauce and lassoed together with Cheddar cheese, crispy onion straws, lettuce, fresh tomatoes & mayo. $9.39
To drink I had a Sand In Your Shorts.

20120526:
S.N. ordered a stack of onion rings for us all to share. I ordered a Cherry Lime Flip (to drink) and an A.1. Peppercorn Burger.
Red Robin's Website Description:
A.1. PEPPERCORN Hardwood-smoked bacon, melted Pepper-Jack cheese, A.1.® Peppercorn Spread, crispy onion straws and fresh tomatoes on an onion bun. It’s a taste explosion! $10.39
I wrote: "This A.1. Peppercorn is good at first, but becomes too much for me to handle. Mainly, for me, the sauce is overwhelming. Secondly, the hamburger bun." 9:22 PM PDT

20120615:
Today the service was bad, but my Salted Caramel Shake was good. After ordering a shake, I asked the waitress for water. When the shake came back, my friend got a water, but I didn't. After some time, I either asked again from our waitress or a different worker. Fine. No big deal. But then at some point, my friend got his water refilled, but mine wasn't. Luckily for me, my friend was willing to split his refilled water in half. It also took us a while to get napkins. I recall at least one thing else went wrong, but I don't remember what.
Of course, my friends and I are quite understanding about the issue. Restaurants get busy and waiters and waitresses are doing their best to wait on all the customers. They can easily forget a table or become so busy they simply can not keep up. That's fine, but then they must understand we are justified in giving less tip than we would normally give.
Separate from the service, I didn't like the burger I ordered. Out of the three ways to upgrade their Red's Tavern Double, I chose Cantina Jack Style. I was probably thinking it'd be healthier than adding bacon (Pig Out Style). Darn my attempt at eating slightly healthier than usual.
Red Robin's Website Description:
Red's Tavern Double Two fire-grilled classic-sized patties, topped with melted American cheese, fresh lettuce, tomato and Red’s Secret Tavern Sauce on a toasted sesame bun, all wrapped in foil to help contain all of this Tavern goodness.
In a press release found on the Red Robin website, the three Tavern Styles have the following descriptions:

After buying some much needed clothes, I walked around the mall for some much needed food. Failing to find any novel restaurant of interest, I decided to fall back on an old favorite: Red Robin.
However, instead of ordering a burger, I ordered a salad with chicken.
Menu Description:
Banzai Salad There's something special about the citrus-ale dressing hugging the teriyaki chicken, perfectly matching the grilled pineapple and mandarin oranges with shredded carrots, parsley and almonds over mixed greens. Served with garlic toast 10.79

Javier's
20101220:
Celebrating my sister's birthday, my family and I went to Javier's, a Mexican restaurant located at the Irvine Spectrum.
I ordered the Chile Verde.
Menu Description:
Chile Verde Tender natural pork sauteed with onions and chiles in a tomatillo sauce. Served with arroz, refritos and warm tortillas.
The pork was good.
I think my parents got the Callitos Mazatlan.
Menu Description:
Callitos Mazatlan Fresh wild Scallops, U-10 chemical free, sauteed in garlic, butter and chipotle sauce. Served with white rice, black beans and avocado slices.
I only tried a scallop and it was salty.
My sister's friend Michael ordered a dish centered around chicken. I tried a piece of it and found it delicious.
But for food served at a high price range, Javier's didn't compare to the much tastier Las Brisas (Las Brisas Restaurant Website).
To drink I had two single malt whiskys: Highland Park and Bowmore.

Five Guys
20091211:
After Rachel picked me up, we picked Issel up and headed to this burger place called Five Guys. The burger was good, but I didn't get a chance to try the fries because they were cooked in peanut oil. And while I've had soy sauce with peanut oil, my experience beyond it was limited.*
I want to vomit when I eat peanuts and I once broke out in hives when I ate something with sesame oil. But the sesame seeds on a hamburger bun don't bother me at all. I typically dislike the taste of tofu, but tofu wrapped shrimp is bearable, I suppose because its fried and thus killing any protein that cause my allergic reactions.
In any case, after eating at five guys, we went bowling. I have a little story to tell there, so check it out.
*The next entry states that I eventually discovered (some time during Summer 2010) that I can safely food cooked in peanut oil.

That's what the receipt says anyhow... That is a bacon cheeseburger (two patties), lettuce, pickle, tomato, grilled onions, and mushroom. $6.39+tax=$6.95. Oh I also split an order of large fries with my friend Josh. I hadn't tried the fries at the Five Guys in Maryland, because of the peanut oil. But last summer I went to a burger place down at Metro Pointe called Boardwalk: Fresh Burger & Fries (which is similar to Five Guys) which also had fries fried in peanut oil. I had tried it then without a problem. Of course, prior to trying the fries I had done some research regarding peanut oil. The fries at Five Guys is alright. I wouldn't go to Five Guys just for the fries.
The burger was delicious. It is nice to have options of what you want to put on your burger. Just covering burgers, first it's one or two patties (little or regular). Second, cheese or no cheese (regular or cheeseburger). Third, bacon or no bacon. Then you can choose toppings. Mayo, lettuce, pickles, tomatoes, grilled onions, grilled mushrooms, ketchup, mustard. Relish, onions, jalapeno peppers, green peppers, A.1 sauce, bar-b-q sauce, hot sauce.
On a slightly different note, I'd say my peanut allergy is mild. My symptoms involve itching/tingling in or around the mouth and a strong desire to vomit. Typically if I vomit then I feel much better than trying to hold it in. The sickness is positively correlated with the amount I accidentally ingest.

It's been a while since I've eaten at Five Guys and today I chose it over the other options available to me. It was, however, the first time I ordered a salad wrapped burger at Five Guys.
Compared to a protein-style In-N-Out burger, it was messier and the patty didn't taste as good. While the benefits of a Five Guys burger is the choice of toppings, the ingredients in the burger were uneven and would have required some work to balance.
On a different note, next time I would skip the peppers and get extra pickles.

20101003:
We got the times for the train wrong so we had to wait about an hour for the next train to arrive. So we went to Tick Tock Diner to get something to eat and pass the time. I have a picture of what I ordered, which I will post after my exam, but as far as how the burger tasted, I don't really remember. I'm absolutely sure it didn't taste bad, and I'm fairly sure it tasted good.

Josh put down one gyoza, one yellow tail (2pc), and one tempura shrimp (2pc).
I put down one yellow tail (2pc) and one tempura shrimp (2pc).
We put down one Alaska, one lobster roll, and one stinky roll (each 8pc).
First to come out was the gyoza (at top), two yellow tail (furthest left), two tempura shrimp (next to the yellow tail), and the lobster roll.
I didn't have an order of gyoza, because usually something like the gyoza is cooked in sesame oil. The tempura shrimp is delicious, and I love the lobster roll. The yellow tail was par.
Then came the stinky roll and the Alaska roll.
The stinky roll, if you like garlic, is delicious. It has so much flavor. The Alaska roll is also delicious, and later we got these two rolls again.
Then Josh ordered a tempura shrimp (2pc).
I ordered an octopus (2pc) and a sea urchin (2pc).
We ordered an alaska (of which I ated 3/8), a spider roll (5pc, of which I ate 3/5), and a stinky roll.
First came the tempura shrimp, octopus, and sea urchin (uni). Pictured below are the octopus and sea urchin.
The octopus you eat for the texture. I don't remember having sea urchin before, but trying it today, I love the texture and taste.
Then we got our second stinky roll.
Then the spider roll and our second Alaska (not pictured).
The spider roll was good, and while maybe not as flavorful as the Alaska or stinky roll, it offers a texture that is not in the Alaska or stinky roll. We ordered perhaps two or three pieces over being full, which is pretty good. As a tally, Josh and I had 1 appetizer, 7 sides, and 6 cut rolls (alternatively we each had about 4 sides and 3 cut rolls).
I also ate 2/8 of Stephanie and Daniel's order of stinky roll.

Pho Quang Trung
I've been to the Pho Quang Trung in Garden Grove, CA once or twice before and to the Pho Quang Trung in Westminster, CA once before.
20100529:
The large was huge... it's practically two smalls put together. And for only 5.18, it's a great buy.

A bowl of pho is available in the following sizes: Nho {Literally Small} (Small) 4.45 | Dac Biet {Literally Special} (Medium) 5.15 | Xe Lua {Literally Train} (Large) 5.18
I compared family photos with some photos on Yelp.com and was able to match up features to conclude with 100% certainty that 20100529 was Pho Quang Trung 2 (Westminster, CA).

Red beans. I like it, but there's the age ol' bad aftertaste. This bad aftertaste is similar to my tendency to dislike peas and soybean, or more generally legumes. There are times however when the aftertaste doesn't kick in. I can, for example, eat edamame. Maybe they have yet to produce the protein(s) which my body associates with peanuts. In any case, this bad aftertaste is not so much a taste, but more of an itchy tongue. It makes me want to scrap my tongue of whatever particles are on it. But I guess since this is at a molecular level, drinking water or soda doesn't solve the problem.
Note to self: While my dad and I didn't get any red bean che on 20121218, I confirmed on Yelp.com that this location does give free red bean soup/dessert. The most recent review stating this was 20121022.
[20120524][20130103]
20120609:
The last time my parents and I came here, my dad ordered pho ga (chicken rice noodle) and I ordered pho ap cho. This time I ordered pho ga and my dad ordered pho ap cho. I ordered a xe lua (large) and was able to finish the noodles and meats, but not all the broth. My mom ordered the vegetarian pho ap chao.
I don't eat pho ga that often, but I'm sure this place is one of the places that make it best. If you want to try pho ga (chicken pho), I'd recommend trying it here.
This time around I simply gave the red bean che to my dad.
Note to self: This place is almost certainly the same place as 20120523, but doesn't necessarily have to be Pho Quang Trung. My vague memory correlates the pho ap cho + pho ga + red bean che with another location. But memories can be deceiving, especially vague ones.
[20120627][20130103]
20121218:
Coming home from Maryland and having pho somewhere in Westminster is practically a tradition. It's a sort of comfort food. Warming the body and soul, it's practically the Vietnamese equivalent of chicken noodle soup. Today, my dad and I each ordered a bowl of pho ga (chicken pho), but got it with a different type of banh pho (Vietnamese flat rice noodle). Instead of the usual dried and small (width) banh pho, we got fresh and medium banh pho. Medium width banh pho, as pictured below, is about the width of a chopstick. Note that fresh banh pho is called "banh pho tuoi."
Note: The entire dried and fresh gets confusing when one takes into account that there's fresh packets which you can find in the refrigerated section, and even fresher banh pho tuoi which has not been refrigerated. Such trays of banh pho tuoi are best consumed the day they are made.
I feel like one benefit is they retain more oil when fresh. Basically banh pho tuoi is like eating long, thin strips of banh uot.
Note to self: I'm 100% sure 20121218 was Pho Quang Trung 2 (Westminster, CA). As of 20130103, I only had restaurant pho at that location.
[20130102]
20140718:
While getting pho after a long flight home from Baltimore-Washington International Airport is a tradition, today marks the last of that tradition, because it would be the last time I'd be flying from BWI to LAX on account of graduate school.
In any case, today I got the standard bowl of pho.
Note that while the table isn't the same as above, I'm 100% certain that we ate at Pho Quang Trung today. After parking, we walked and entered the restaurant, but worried about someone breaking in and stealing my luggage, my dad requested to be seated where he could keep an eye on the car.

Today my dad and I ate here and I thought the broth was salty compared to the pho at Kobe House USA. 12:51PM PT
[20140910]
20150325:
Today I came and got a bowl of pho tai gan sach (rice noodle soup with rare beef, tendon, and tripe). It smelled good and I love the thick noodle. 11:10PM PT
It did, however, taste a bit salty towards the end. 11:24PM PT
[20150517]
20150517:
Today I tried something new here: medium-sized #16, pho tai (beef) ve mem (soft flank) + bo vien (beef balls), with pho tuoi.
I liked the soft flank a lot, but the broth was only alright. In particular, I didn't feel like drinking more of it after I finished all the solid ingredients.
While eating, I also noted that the restaurant served their bo vien in slices (as opposed to the standard hemisphere).

This dish is delicious. For vegetables it has celery, carrots, and greens. It has a good flavor. My dad had a taste (of the noodles) and he said it tastes good, too. My parents said the part that makes the dish is the smoky flavor. They explained this on the way to the restaurant.

I've had this burger before, and it's a good burger. Not memorable, but good. In fact, I believe this was what I had the first time I came here. I didn't have it today. It comes with curly fries.
Stuffed French Toast $6.95
The first time I had this dish I was amazed. I believe I had it the second time I went to Shore House. And perhaps the third time. And that this is the fourth time I've been to Shore House. I wanted something inexpensive and not too heavy. At first I was just going to get the regular French toast (around $5), but in the end I opted for the stuffed French toast. It's stuffed with cream cheese. They give you a piece of melon (I think honeydew) and orange on the side. I think if I were to count correctly, four slices of bread, two for each stuffed French toast, and cut diagonally.
Cup Soup of the day $2.95
I had a sip of the broth. Good.

Fuji's Famous Burger
At some point, I went here for the first time. Then I went perhaps one or two more times. Then I went once last winter (2009-2010) with my friends and once in the same winter with my family.
20100525:
Typically this burger would probably be ordered without the pineapple, with the cheese, and with the bacon. But I love the taste of pineapple with the burger and I recently being a little health conscious, I decided to opt out on the bacon. In any case, the teriyaki sauce alone would cause a bit of a mess, but the pineapple juice that comes out of the pineapple definitely adds to that mess. But I totally don't care about the mess for a burger this good. If not good, at the least, its unique. Total cost: $5.22.
[20100526 4 PM] Dinner
20100605:
I got a teriyaki pineapple burger with cheese today. It's almost like the burger I ordered last time, except without avocado. While the burger's still juicy, it now lacks the avocado's soft buttery texture. The avocado also provides substance. Of course, I knew I would go biking soon, so I'm more than happy. Total cost $5.71.
I went perhaps one or two more times between 20100605 and 20101215.
[20100612][20140928][20150120 Edit] Lunch
20101215:
Today I just got an unaltered Avocado Teriyaki Burger with a side of fries. The fries at Fuji's are just decent, but I love the burgers. Total cost $5.71.

I took a picture of a couple of food items today. However, (as of 20150120,) I'm not sure if I had ordered any of it. From the look of things, there's a soft taco, some cream cheese wontons, and a sandwich.
[20150120] 19:13
20140814:
So Fuji's Famous Burger has opened a location in Fountain Valley called Fuji's Famous Burgers & More.
Besides a teriyaki avocado burger (I forgot to add pineapple), I also ordered nacho wontons. Unlike cream-cheese wontons, nacho wontons are filled with nacho cheese and contain a slice of jalapeno. This makes them a bit spicy. Overall, they taste good.
I don't like the normal fries here at Fuji's.
I did not go to Fuji's during my recent visit to Orange County (20141219-20150102).

Denny's
I've been to Denny's a countless number of times before 20100524, many times from 20100524 to 20110616, and certainly many more times after 20110715.
20100524:
My friends and I have been to Denny's many times for late night snacks. While I didn't order anything today, I will describe what my friends ordered: (1) apple pie with ice cream (I haven't tried this yet), (2) pancake puppies (they're delicious, even the chocolate ones are good), (3) chicken tender soft tacos (I haven't tried this one yet either; I have, however, tried the chicken tenders which are fairly good for the price range)
The restaurant is pretty good about giving you custom orders, provided you ask nicely.
One thing my friends and I learned today (20100528) is the syrup that makes the drinks is pre-mixed, at least the ones my friends wanted.
I ended up eating one or two pancake puppies; half of the tortilla, lettuce, and cheese part of a chicken tender soft taco; and one or two spoonfuls of hash browns.
[20100528][20141018 Edit] Late Night Snack (Fountain Valley)
20110616:
This dish wasn't anything special. I enjoyed it, because I had it with BBQ sauce. See the dish of BBQ sauce in the picture? I finished that, and I definitely wanted more, but told myself I couldn't have more.
[20110715] (Fountain Valley)
20110711:
We finished bowling and decided we wanted to get something to eat. I might have gotten the French Toast Slam, I'm not sure. Maybe I just got the French toast with peach and somebody else ordered the eggs, hash brown, and sausage. Though I usually order sausage with my slams, while Josh would get bacon. Then for some reason I don't think Chris would order eggs, hash brown, and sausage.

I went to In-N-Out Burger a lot when I was in college and on average I would go at least once every time I visited California while in Maryland. While not the best food in the world, In-N-Out makes good fast-food burgers. Historically, my favorite orders include a Double Double with Grilled Onions, a Double Double Protein Style with Grilled Onions, and Animal Style Fries. As of Jan 2015, my go-to order is a Double Meat Protein Style with Grilled Onions and Pickles.

Double meat with pickles (20141103) |
My sister told me about various other options available for your burger and/or fries. I think next time I'll try getting a whole grilled onion instead of diced and extra lettuce.

Double meat, grilled onions, pickles. The pickles reminded me of burgers from McDonald's. 20140916 1:24PM PT

Double meat, grilled onions, pickles, protein style. It wasn't as juicy as I'd imagine it would be. The pickles were good. I should have put kim chi in it when I got home. Wow, that would have been awesome. 20141229 12:36AM PT

Triple meat, grilled onions, pickles, protein style. It was pretty tasty, though, when it comes to In-N-Out burgers, I do miss the cheese. Perhaps next time I'll order a double and a single or buy extra lettuce. Asking for extra special sauce could be an option, but then I might as well get cheese. 20150107 12:30AM PT

2 x (Double meat, grilled onions, pickles, protein style). The two burgers I got today were juicy and tasty. They were much better than the single triple meat I got last time I came to In-N-Out (20150107). 20150115 1:24AM PT
20150123:
3 x Double Double. After having several beers (Trumer Pils, The Lost Abbey Devotion Ale, Bear Republic Tartare), I was feeling awful hungry and ordered three Double Doubles from In-N-Out.

Triple meat, grilled onions, raw onion, pickles, protein style. Today I went up to order and asked for 'three meat' instead of 'triple meat,' I don't know what I was thinking.
While waiting for my order, I began computing the cost of individual components. The price difference between a cheeseburger and hamburger is the price of cheese : 30 cents.

The price difference between a Double Double and a cheeseburger is the price of a patty and cheese: $1.15. Thus the price of a patty is 85 cents. The cost of bread and filler is $1.10. 10:17PM PT

While I wanted a quintuple meat burger, the cashier said that they can only add two patties to a double meat. Also, getting the buns today was unintentional, I just forgot to request the burger protein style.
While I didn't eat all of the bread, the burger was delicious.
On a slightly different note, I ate two cold In-N-Out burgers the other day without first reheating them and it was a horrible taste experience.

And you might be thinking, I could have just throw them in the microwave after the first bite. Well, let me ask you this, do you know what it's like to drink half a bottle of ketchup?

This was my first time getting mustard on an In-N-Out burger. While the lack of special sauce was noticeable, the presence of mustard was not.

Double meat, whole grilled onions, grilled onions, protein style (Ada)
It's been a while since I've been to In-N-Out. Today I got a Double-Double and ate it with peppers and pickles; although the pickles were not the best quality, the burger was still good.
Meanwhile, Ada liked her double patty with grilled onions. Actually, we asked for no special sauce on it, but it came out with special sauce (the receipt indicates no special sauce as well). In any case, Ada didn't want to wait for them to redo it and just ate it. Well, I gave her some of my outer lettuce and she gave me some of her inner lettuce. 10:26 PM PT
