Mekong Delta Cafe

Coming from the campus, I took the JHMI down to the Peabody stop. From there, it's just a couple blocks walk to the restaurant. Of course, one has the option of taking the Charm City Circulator Purple Route, either from Penn Station or basically anywhere south of Penn Station along St. Paul.

First time eating here. I tried coming here with a friend sometime back in January, but it was closed. Apparently it closes unexpectedly every now and then, but manages to do so without hurting business. That's amazing. In any case, I noticed the menu has very little Vietnamese on it. That's reasonable in a community with almost no Vietnamese. The place is small and welcoming. The pho is served in non-standard square bowls, instead of standard circular bowls. Overall, there was less broth in the bowl than other pho places, but I suppose most people don't drink all the broth anyhow. I felt like their Dac Biet (special) bowl had a different composition of meats than normally found in Dac Biet bowls at other pho places. However, that was fine by me. In particular, this pho restaurant adds bo vien (beef balls) into their Dac Biet bowls, but I didn't mind.

Given the quality of food and it's accessibility transportation-wise, I'd come here again. However, if I came and found it closed more than 66% of the time, that'd be a turn-off. At the moment it carries a 50% rate of business.
